In regards to our pre-purchase hull inspections:
I recently purchased (October 2005) a launch moored in the Bridge Marina at Mt Maunganui; it was essential for me to have a professional survey carried out prior to the deal being completed. Mike Menzies Marine Inspections Ltd. was recommended to me and I commissioned them to carry out the required inspection.
Mike has proved to be thoroughly professional in every respect, he is undoubtedly highly skilled at his job, is an excellent communicator with both the purchaser, and vendor. Consequently he contributed significantly in making the purchase of this boat a pleasant experience for me.
I have no hesitation in recommending Mikes services to any prospective boat purchaser or person who may require independent honest advice on any matter connected with boats.
Just a quick note to pass on my sincere thanks for the inspection report you have just completed (July 2006) on the boat I am about to purchase. I have had several survey’s done personally over the years and seen quite a few however I must say your report is the most accurate and detailed I have ever come across. I found your report extremely thorough and covered many aspects I have not seen in a standard survey before. Thank you once again, really did appreciate the lengths you went to.
In regards to our project management:
(We completed some oversee work at Gulf Harbour Marina for Jim Patek, owner of SV ‘LETS GO!’, at Gulf Harbour while Jim was in the States. Jim has kindly written a reference for us and given permission for this to be used in our site. The full letter is detailed below and is also to be found on the ‘noonsite’ website for cruising yachties.)
I stored Let’s Go! on the hard stand at Gulf Harbour Marina, Whangaparaoa, during the period November 2004 through January 2005. During this period, I required several maintenance projects to be undertaken in my absence so that the boat would be ready to sail as soon as I returned. This was, as always, a very risky practice because you are relying on various trades people to follow your instructions and meet your deadlines while you are not there to provide supervision or apply the necessary pressure.
In my case, Mike Menzies, of Mike Menzies Marine Services ([email protected]), based at Gulf Harbour and one of New Zealand’s most respected yacht surveyors and osmosis treatment experts, provided project management services for a very reasonable charge. I had known Mike from the osmosis treatment he had performed on a previous yacht as very experienced in all aspects of marine repair and fitness as well as for being impeccably honest and pleasant to work with. I am recommending Mike, with his permission, in the event other boat owners have to have work done in New Zealand while in absentia. I should also say that the yard staff at Gulf Harbour are some of the most customer friendly and professional I have experienced and the trades people excellent.
Jim Patek, S/V Let’s Go!
